The Plot
Based on the Oscar-nominated hit film of 1974 starring Gene Wilder, Young Frankenstein is the wicked comical twist of Mary Shelley?s classic story, in which a proclaimed neurosurgeon and professor from New York, Frederick Frankenstein, inherits a laboratory and castle in Transylvania from his deranged grandfather, Victor Von Frankenstein. Young Frankenstein is extremely skeptical about returning to the castle because of his family?s highly-tortured past and the myth of the legendary monster.
The Crew
Three time Tony Award winner, Mel Brooks and three time Tony Award Winner, Thomas Meehan wrote this book together, which has finally being transformed into a live Musical, under the direction and choreography of Susan Stroman, five-time Tony Award winner. Music and lyrics have been provided by Mel Brooks, under the supervision of Glen Kelly. Scenic Design by Robin Wagner, Costume Design by William Ivey Long, Sound Design by Jonathan Deans, Lighting Design by Peter Kaczorowski and Orchestrations by Doug Besterman ? it is more or less the same crew who put together the phenomenal Broadway success, the Producers!
The new Mel Brooks-Thomas Meehan musical comedy follows the hilarious classical film pretty closely. Though the Young Frankenstein Musical turns out to be a bit lengthy, the theatre version has left out little or no parts of the movie.
